Hi all,
Campaign for College Opportunity, which is a business and higher education adminstrator group, offered a late and unfortunate voice to the community college budget today. The Campaign sent a letter to the Legislature that (see attached letter):

  • endorses raising community college fees to $30 this fall, and $40 next year.
  • supports the 50% cuts to community college categoricals, including from our poorest and disabled students
  • supports the LAO's recommendation for 40% cuts to physical education courses, which would eliminate most community college athletic programs

The Campaign's message came as news from the Capitol emerged that a "deal" has been reached on the community college budget to raise fees to $26/unit this fall, minimize cuts to poor and disabled students, and reject the proposed significant cuts to physical education courses. The Campaign is actively lobbying for a budget worse for community colleges.

I hope that you will join me in providing feedback to the Campaign for College Opportunity by e-mailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Should fees in community colleges go up 50% this year and 100% next year? Should  support programs for poor and disabled students in community colleges be cut in half?

In additon, use the (FACCC website) to contact your legislator and let them know you oppose these cuts to community colleges.

Sincerely,

Dean Murakami
